Friday, December 1
HOUSEKEEPING:
1. Holiday Heroes initiative is underway: please send any new hats/mitts/coats or unwrapped toys to school and we will place them under the tree. As well, if you wish to donate gift cards to teens in need you can also do that (we will give them to the office to hold for safekeeping).
2. Students who received photo re-dos were given their proofs today and they are to be returned by (or ordered online by) December 6.
3. Class photos came home today!
KUDOS TO: 1. The 7/8L homeroom for carrying out a VERY lengthy and very constructive conversation about sexual harassment in the workplace. It was a very proud moment for me to hear your ideas come out in such a calm and respectful manner. Second kudos goes to Jamie for teaching Jessica to play basketball. Something about finding her voice... (And kudos to Jessica for breaking out of her comfort zone).
3. Kudos to the girls' volleyball team for defeating the boys. Again. And again.
4. Kudos to Eleanor for bringing holiday heroes gifties!
5. Kudos to Natalie for making such a beautiful card for Karen.
HOMEWORK:
ENGLISH:
1. NoRedInk: the next tasks are due next Wednesday (December 6). It will take about an hour to do these tasks (notice "tasks" is plural), so start tonight!
2. Career posters were due today. Ms. Liaw-Morris would like to remind you to get them in a.s.a.p.
3. Submit at least two ideas to the "7 8 English Sexual Harassment Input" file on google classroom. Start with your name: then comment. E.g. Mr. Le Moine: we could organize a...
4. Finalize your research for your drama photo presentation that will take place on Monday (this is the history backdrop work). Each student will need to speak for roughly 30 seconds about who their character is in the photo. Parents! Here's any easy way to see if your child is prepared: ask them to present their pose, break out of the pose, and then explain who they are in the context of the photo.
5. We begin our new 8-box on Monday and finish Friday. This means 2/3 of the book is read by next Friday.
MATH:
1. Grade 8: The first page (both sides) of the word problem sheets is homework for this weekend.
2. Grade 7: make a small sketch of something that could be used for the tessellations project. Start with a square or a hexagon and then "blur" the lines. What could it look like?
FRENCH:
1. Please print your book talk so I can make suggestions.
HISTORY:
1. New unit starting next class: the railroad! The lessons will be a little different...
